The Pethick-Lawrences and the fight for the women's vote in the villages of the Surrey Hills by Kathy Atherton. Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence was a leading campaigner for universal suffrage. Her husband, Frederick, was also a campaigner for women’s suffrage, and a leading Labour politician. They lived at the Lutyens’ designed Dutch House in Holmwood and Frederick Pethick-Lawrence took the title Baron Pethick-Lawrence of Peaslake when he was elevated to the peerage in 1945.
