The hall has stood on its current site for over 100 years. It was rebuilt in 1985 and renamed in 1993 to commemorate the life of John Venus who was the vicar between 1983 and 1993. It housed the village Post Office which was closed on 16th August, 2001. It is located about 300 metres west from the junction of Broomehall Road and Abinger Road.

The hall is available for public and private hire. It has a large hall with tables and chairs, a kitchen, disabled toilet facilities and a Wifi. It also houses the polling station for local and general elections.

The hall has recently been repainted, the curtains have all been replaced and new curtains have been hung on the north end of the hall to help reduce sound echo, thanks are due to volunteers for this excellent work.
